I've been cooking for history students in my intro to #Canada course this term. This week, I made Apple Pudding using an 1888 recipe from Annie Baker (Dunham, #Québec). It was good, even without the recommended frosting.

A lot of pizza places have Pi-Day "special price" of $3.14, but many are still a raw deal, and even AI gets it.
Example:
BJ's Restaurants Pi-Day only: $3.14 single-topping 9" pizza
Costco food court any day: $9.99 multi-topping 18" pizza, with way better ingredients
PS:
- You don't need to eat all the pizza at once. It freezes just fine.
- Healthier not to eat (traditional) pizza at all, but if you wanna.

Indeed, when all other factors remain constant, the π-day “special pricing” for the 9-inch pizza at $3.14 is still less favorable compared to the Costco 18-inch pizza priced at $9.99. Let’s break it down:

1. Cost per Square Inch:
   ° For the 9-inch pizza:
     • Cost per square inch: (\frac{3.14}{64} \approx 0.049)
   ° For the 18-inch pizza:
     • Cost per square inch: (\frac{9.99}{254.47} \approx 0.039)
   ° The…

Hey, seasoned international travelers, have a moment to give advice? I’m wondering whether this “provide all your passport details” web form from KLM is worth filling out.
It promises to “speed up the check-in process at the airport.” As a software person, the offer I hear is “make your sensitive data pass through even •more• systems with heaven knows what security characteristics.”
If doing it at the airport is 5 min, I’d prefer that. If that’s asking for a headache, then OK, f…

Mehdi Hasan on Gaza & the US
"The idea that the United States of America, the world’s only superpower, cannot tell its ally, “You know what? We’re going to put aid into Gaza because we want to, and you’re not going to stop us, especially since we’re the ones arming you,” is bizarre. It’s something I think Biden will never be able to get past or live down. ... we can’t even get our own aid in, while they’re bombing with our bombs"

Hot take because I like the #GoodTechThings newsletter Forrest makes:
Stack overflow exists because primary documentation generally sucks and will continue to.
Otherwise why would (usually outdated) tutorials exist?
As @… points out... ChatGPT is good at being welcoming, stackoverflow is bad at it, and both are good at outdated wrong answers.
All docs on the internet have sucked longer than you think (yes, before SEO ruined things). It's just the paradox of knowledge: when you've known something so long you forget how far you've come and how hard it was to learn.
Was helping someone new to tech, tried looking back at some tutorials and gosh they didn't include all the papercuts I went through. Even official docs of commercial providers are not free of that. Some primary docs are just plain wrong or outdated.
